Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a manual therapy using a variety of techniques to normalise muscle tissue before, after or even during an event or game. Sports massage focuses on areas of the body that become overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements. Using developed massage techniques, sports massage therapy is now used by athletes and individuals as part of their normal balanced training regimen.

Sports massage therapy can be used as a means to:

  • Reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event
  • Enhance event or race preparation
  • Improve flexibility and reduce fatigue
  • Improve endurance and prevent further injury in the future
Trigger point technique

Trigger point techniques are used to release or releave areas of muscle or fascia (myofascia) that have gone into a consistent contracted state. Myofascia means muscle tissue (myo) and the connective tissue in and around it (fascia). Myofascial pain often results from muscle injury or repetitive strain. When stressed or injured, muscles often form trigger points, like contacted knots, that cause pain and tightness. Trigger points usual give some form of referral pattern, for example trigger points in the neck can radiate pain to the skull and cause headaches. Treatment is specific to the area of dysfunction and can range from direct pressure work to positional release. The aim of treatment is to ‘reprogramme’ the tissue into relaxing.

Kinesio Taping

We are all qualified and experienced at using Functional Taping Techniques. You may have noticed that more and more professional athletes use kinesiology taping to improve their sporting performance, prevent injury and allow them to return to sport quicker. We will assess the area and look at the best use of taping for the condition of the tissues. It normally takes between 15 and 30 mins depending on the detail required for the application

“I feel that Sports Massage is much more than Massage alone, it is important to look at the reasons behind the muscle or tissue problems the client has. A tight neck from postural positions to shins splints from running, using a variety of Soft tissue techniques can give a solution.”
